Frequently asked questions

When it comes to support we have you completely covered and are more than happy to chat about our Reef Keeping passion and OCEAMO product range, whether by phone or email, so please get in touch. Here are some of the frequently asked questions about OCEAMO products:

What IS OCEAMO DUO and what do they do?

It’s a 2 part complete in-organic liquid balling method, that not only maintains Alkalinity, Calcium and Magnesium but also all minor and major elements too for your marine / reef aquarium to thrive in a very ionically balanced way, never seen before.

How do I use OCEAMO DUO?

The 2 bottles supplied can either be added directly concentrated or can diluted with Reverse Osmosis / Deionised water (purified water of a zero TDS value) and then dosed either manually per day or for complete ease of use via a dosing pump into your aquarium or sump automatically. By using a dosing pump it fully automates your full daily consumption and breaks it down into smaller equal amounts dosed over a 24hr period.

Can I start using the OCEAMO DUO straight away in my marine reef aquarium?

In short yes, just monitor your alkalinity and calcium levels via your home aquarium test kits for the first couple of weeks so that the dosing of the OCEAMO DUO can be adjusted depending on your own aquariums uptake of the calcium and alkalinity and elements within.

We’d always recommend sending of a sample of your aquarium water and Reverse Osmosis water to OCEAMO for testing first. This way the OCEAMO - ICP-OES test can see if any adjustments or any previously undetected problems need to be addressed first, saving you time and money and potentially the lives of your inhabitants. Your Oceamo ICP test is sent to a UK address and every FRIDAY we at Reef Quest forward all the samples to Oceamo in Austria for testing, with results emailed back to you by Tuesday.

What is ICP testING and WHY USE THE OCEAMO ?

ICP testing (Inductively Coupled Plasma) analyses the exact levels of elements in your aquarium water. It helps diagnose problems, track trace element use, and verify your test kits by comparing results on the same day.

ICP-OES is widely used to monitor trends and guide dosing, but results are only reliable if salinity is measured accurately — something most labs don’t do properly.

Oceamo stands out because:

  • They measure salinity with a laboratory-grade conductometer.

  • They test orthophosphate directly (PO₄), not just phosphorus.

  • They include nitrite (NO₂), a key bacterial health indicator.

  • Alkalinity (KH) is always included.

  • They use ion chromatography for accurate nitrate, fluoride, and more.

  • Each test kit includes a 0.22-micron filter to prevent sample contamination.

  • They also test for rubidium, which many labs ignore.

  • Every test includes clear, tailored guidance from Oceamo’s team.

We also offer Oceamo’s ICP-MS testing — the most advanced available. It’s up to 10,000x more sensitive than ICP-OES and accurately measures ultra-trace elements that standard ICPs can’t detect. This prevents overdosing and allows early detection of pollutants, giving better control over colour, stability, and coral health.

Can I use OCEAMO DUO and OCEAMO’s ICP-OES, ICP-MS or Organo-MS test on any other manufactureR's filtration system?

Of course OCEAMO DUO allows you to run your aquarium filtration, lighting, water flow etc. etc. the way you find works best. We’re always around to help and advise on best practices and our helpful Facebook group allows people to share these experiences. OCEAMO DUO doesn’t tie you to any particular method as other brands do.  The Oceamo analyses can of course be used by all, many will test every month without fail to monitor their Reef aquariums journey so that any potential issues can be easily identified and of course averted. This way it also allows you to fine tune any supplements that are being used more quickly and thus maintaining any short fall. This way also benefits you from not having to do any water changes unless a problem is detected to restore balance and or dilute any accumulation.

Some people may choose to do a test once in a while just to see how things are doing on their chosen method, the choice is yours.

Are regular water changes still required when using OCEAMO DUO?

OCEAMO DUO are adding 24/7 all the required trace elements to your aquarium in a balanced way by dosing, which can be fine tuned to your own aquariums consumption. This balance and equilibrium allows you to negate the need of a regular water change as by doing them you would be adding an unknown and potentially unbalanced quantity of trace elements through this water change and thus changing the equilibrium and stability of the trace element balance you’ve already achieved through the dosing of OCEAMO DUO.  Remember your also adding Reverse Osmosis water on an automatic top up system to keep salinity stable from evaporation and now all OCEAMO ICP analyses report on the quality of your RO water completely free of charge, which can determine if the RO / DI water supply is at fault or if the Reverse Osmosis unit needs replacement filters etc . If a shift in water parameters has been detected via an OCEAMO ICP test then a water change maybe the best way in short to dilute an accumulation or imbalance. This would show as a recommendation as part of your OCEAMO ICP test results with instructions to follow clearly listed.

Can I swap to the OCEAMO range from another method and use the OCEAMO DUO instead?

Yes of course you can, we’d recommend that if you’re switching from another brand that to begin with you use the recommend 10 ml OCEAMO DUO per 100 litres of aquarium water and monitor daily by home testing Alkalinity and Calcium and adjust accordingly.

Many that switch to OCEAMO DUO find instant improvements with the health, vitality and colours of their corals. Including a higher and more stabilized pH, but also a far more ionically balanced and stable product. Oceamo DUO is a very concentrated product and up to 4 times more concentrated than other brands.

Pease don’t hesitate to contact us if you require more information or advise about Oceamo Reef Keeping products. We’re always here to help.
